It has partnered with German tyre maker Continental AG for technology support and will invest Rs.300 crore on upgrading and expanding its manufacturing and research and development facilities.
Metro Tyres will initially start selling the radial tyres in the top 16 cities in India.
Metro Tyres plans to double production of three-wheeler and motorcycle tyres to 600,000 per month over the next three years and aims to capture 10% of the two-wheeler tyre market, Rummy Chhabra, managing director of Metro Tyres, said.
The company said the new tyres will cater to motorcycles ranging from entry level 150cc segment to high capacity sports bikes.
Metro Tyres has a 24% market share in the bicycle tyre and tube market.
“The two-wheeler industry in India is growing at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 8.5% and as per estimates the country has over 120 million two-wheelers currently,” said Chhabra.
